Very rare and early, CowTail pendulum clock. Signed on the inner dial, "Abertshaner Eychstet"; 18th century
Research conducted by NAWCC and others turned up several similar spellings for the same person and town. Everyone agrees that the man, Franz Abershauser of Eichstatt, is the same man that signed this dial. He is know to have made zappler clocks, and worked in the time frame of 1730 to 1775. This clock was probably made late in his career. The spring movement with crown wheel escapement is front wind. Roman numeral hours, Arabic minute marks. Note fish at the base, designs stamped on the brass case. Dial ring is a separate piece of brass, attached to a solid sheet case which is 4 1/2 inches high, 4 inches wide. No way to stand or hang. We believe it originally had an easel stand because of some slots on back where the easel stand may have fit.
