C.1890, German, Korfhage, (Patent 1885), for J. E. Caldwell, PhiladÕa, quarter chime tall clock with 8-bells and 5 gongs, in a well proportioned oak case with carved accents.
Condition: this clock is in excellent condition, recently cleaned and is chiming beautifully. The only minor point we can see to mention is that after the dial restorer re-gilded the numerals, he attached the Ó2Ò in both 12 and 2 circles UPSIDE down. Now we looked at the clock for a month before we noticed this, and I imagine most folks would ignore it, but at least we have pointed it out to you.. The 2 weight movement shifts to strike the hours after chiming, as detailed in KorfhageÕs patent. The plates are brushed with a fancy vertical pattern and arbors and steelwork are highly polished, Case retains original finish, caramel in color, and with original door locks intact. Note also paw feet and circular moon with full spheres showing. May have had right and left finials on hood. Height 98 inches
