C.1875, A. Redier, place du Chatelet 2, a'Paris. 30-day time and calendar office clock.
Condition: The simple pine case has been refinished and is in very nice condition. Porcelain dial with chip at winding hole, otherwise fine. Hands are original. The fabric on the bottom roller has been replaced and re-lettered, while the other two rollers are original. There is a very nicely preserved set of instructions in various languages including English for this calendar timepiece on the inside back cover (w/ water stains). The label claims Mr. Redier as the inventor of the "Pendule-calendrier", the movement with Redier's logo and a'Paris imprints, plus serial No. 5548. Until this auction, we had never had one of these with a label, and you will enjoy the English, the first line of which reads: "This clock goes a month long, without it be need to wind up" This very clock appeared in Terwilliger's 24th silent auction in 1981, lot 62, with a minimum price of $650. He incorrectly called it mahogany; glass replaced since. Height 13.25 inches
