Gustav Becker 3 weightVienna Regulator, ca 1883.
This walnut case ranks in the upper ten percent of the Vienna's that we sell, primarily because of the size, the great carvings, and the clean case lines. It is 52 inches tall, exceptionally clean, and tight. When you pick it up there is no play or give or looseness in the case like we so often see. There are deep carvings on the half columns and a nice carved tail. The other wood parts are what we usually see on most Vienna's. The top is a good color match and style, but would appear to be a replacement. You may see a piece of loose veneer on the bottom and even a small skinned place. Serial number 430597 stamped on the movement dates the clock between 1880 and 1885. Also stamped on the movement are the GB name and trademarks. The heavy 8-day brass movement is post mount type. Strikes Grand Sonnerie on two long iron rods. It strikes each quarter followed by the number of hours. Some people call it a "blind mans clock". Excellent two-piece porcelain dial and porcelain beat scale. The brass weights, pendulum, pulleys, and dial rings, are all clean and certainly very adequate, but have not been polished in some time. The three glasses are good and one at least has survived 120 years.
