Condition: there is some wear to the gilding on raised portions of the gilt bronze case. Acanthus leaves adorn the top moldings, and smaller leaves accent every edge on the balance of the case. The porcelain dial is perfect. Note the dial is signed Ferdinand Berthoud, while the movement is signed with Maxant gold-foil medallion. This clock was made some 70+ years after Berthoud ceased production. As with all Maxant items, this is a very high quality clock. For a similar, but period clock, see Derek Roberts book titled Precision Pendulum Clocks, page 94, fig 31-3. Height 15 inches [38cm]
