German, Lenzkirch, immense and ornate "Freischwinger" or free-swinger with pendulum open in bottom section, serial #824349, c1885
this clock is a Lenzkirch collectors dream. Was imported to the US in 1968 and has been in storage since. Both case and movement are dirty. Note movement mounting sets up on a block to bring dial flush with the door. Sometimes this indicates a marriage, but in this case it was done because of the extra deep case; there is no evidence of tampering. Not immediately evident in the movement are the dozens of decorative bronze castings, since they have all turned dark brown. In spite of having 3 major references on Lenzkirch, we could not find this exact case in a book (send us an email if you know the model) Charts of serial numbers vary quite a bit, but we can safely say that this is 4th quarter of 1800s. Thumbscrews for movement mount are lacking. Some nicks and scrapes to case commensurate with its age. With the many turnings and finial tips in bronze, this is a very heavy clock. We recommend blanket wrap delivery. Ht 52"
