German, Black Forest, early wooden works, arch dial time and alarm clock, weight driven pinwheel escapement movement, with rare front hung compound pendulum, Alarm rings on original glass bell, first half 19th century the wooden dial has two vertical cracks and with paint loss to both numerals and corner decorations; Hand painted scene in arch is protected by glass and is in very good condition; Scene depicts two men with tricorne hats in a horse drawn sleigh. Clip to hang bell is a replacement. Both brass sheathed lead weights are replacements of the proper style. One side dust cover/door is missing. Weight cord for alarm is replaced. Note escape wheel is horizontal in crown fashion, with horizontal verge. Ht of dial 12" Consignor paid $2000 a decade ago.
