France, Comtoise clock, 8 day, time and strike with alarm, weight driven movement with verge escapement, thread suspension with rear-hanging pendulum in a iron post and plate frame, brass chapter ring with Roman numerals, brass alarm ring with Arabic
Well made brass hand. Brass chapter ring is in good condition. Straight brass strip on the right side of the fronton is absent and the opposite side is cracked. Hinge pins on the doors will need to be repaired. There is some surface rust on the iron movement components. Many hand-finished decorative elements within the movement. Turned and faceted crown wheel arbor support. Finely cut crown wheel in the verge escapement. Short, but wide feet on the movement uprights. The time train is located on the right side of the clock and strike train on the left side. The clock has an unusual centrally-located alarm mechanism. It also employs an uncommon double-legged vertical rack, half of which is lightly built. The clock comes with two newer weights and no pendulum.
