Rappel K, Budapest, large hanging Vienna regulator, 30 day, time only, brass, weight driven movement, rosewood veneer case with ebonized ripple molding and carved crest, door corners also with carved ornament, signed, Roman numeral white enamel dial with

the case retains an original finish with some light bleaching to the left side of case and a high quality heavy bracket. One carved element needs to be reglued. The ebonized molding on lower right side of door has a chip. The glass on the left side of case is short and needs to be replaced. The door key is absent. The pendulum has been shortened and repaired and will need adjustment to properly receive the crutch. The beat scale is absent.

Hungarian, N. Swoboda, Pesth, "LATERNDLUHR", 8 day, time piece with 9 light case, steel pendulum, one piece dial and cast bezel, slide mount, c1820

overall very good to excellent original condition. Vienna occupies a prominent spot on the Danube River, and Budapest flanks the river, not far away in Hungary, with the result that Hungarian clock making was highly influenced by the Viennese. Since Buda and Pesth were not united as a single city until 1873, this dial shows the city as Pesth. This is a nice hand made clock with fine wheels and tiny pivots, typical of the day.

C.2001, Hungarian, New, Gothic repro-duction of 19th Century Viennese Pendluhr, with 30 day movement.

This is the 7th one of these we have come into contact with, and the 3rd one we have sold. Original versions of this clock sell for nearly $10,000, and unless you look closely these cases are difficult to tell from the old ones. The weight driven movement has 5 wheels in the train, polished steel pendulum rod, bob brass on both sides, and 5 star pulley is newly made as well. If you want to have a great looking Gothic clock without the expense of a period one, this will do fine. Height 57Ó $2,000-$2,500

C.1860, Budapest, Vienna Regulator wall clock "Dwarf

in a serpentine case and in good original condition. The top finial has had a pie shaped repair and been painted black; the rest is original. The dial signature is fading, but still legible: Lechner Pozsey, Pesten. The well made time only movement in good condition and running OK. The original finish is intact on the case with minor nicks and scrapes, and the door with a dryness crack at bottom. This size Vienna does not turn up that often and are sought after. With old wooden handle crank. Height 39

C.1998, Hungarian replica of a Viennese mini Laterndluhr (style of 1810).

This new clock has been finished to very high standards, and from a few feet away it looks antique. The cabinet maker picked the finest Carpathian burled elm for his veneer, along with satinwood edging. The silk thread movement is an authentic copy of a 2-day duration original, and with a delicate cast and engine turned bezel. You will need to make a key for this, as the hole in the dial is especially small. We had to use the small end of a carriage clock key just to wind for the photo. An original mini from 1810 would be many thousand dollars. Height 20" (52cm) Reserve $1650

C.1998, Hungarian replica of a Viennese mini Dachluhr, 1-weight, time with a porcelain dial and well made movement with silk thread suspension and steel pendulum with brass bob.

See previous lot, made by the same workmen. This is a dark mahogany veneered case with satinwood banding, and is in the severe style of 1825, with 6 panes (lights) of glass. An old one would certainly exceed $3500. Dial 3.5', height 22.5'

C.1998, Hungarian replica of a Veinnese mini 1-weight regulator.

This new clock has been finished to high standards and from just a few feet away it looks antique. Clockmakers in Budapest have a very good reputation, and they have copied both the case and the movement very well. Silk thread movement runs a day or two. The case is rosewood veneer over pine with satinwood banding. Note that many old clocks of the "Vienna' style were originally made in Hungary (Austro-Hungarian Empire 1520 to 1918) An old one would cost you $3500. Dial 3.5', Height 26'

C.1995 (modern), reproduction mini Serpentine Vienna regulator wall clock

, handmade in Hungary. This is a cute clock with weight driven movement and silk suspension. Note porcelain dial even has a brass grommet around the winding hole. Don't lose this crank, as you'll have trouble finding one small enough to wind this clock. Antiques this size usually sell for around $3000. Porcelain dial 2.7", height 28" $900-1200

C.1855, Hungary (Pest), J. Blau, Wall Regulator

in the Viennese late Biedermeier style. Has an attractive grained case with ebonized finials and moldings. The 8-day movement is well made and with perfect dial and hands, signed Blau, J, Pest. Movement mounted on a wooden seatboard and sliding into wooden corbels. Extra nice 4-spoke pulley; weight with some dents. This case was filled with dust and cobwebs, but will restore nicely. Height 46" Reserve $650
