Clockmaker - J Ruxton, Longford Ireland. This is a Small 'Regulator' style clock in a style typical of the English Regency period, with restrained and elegant lines together with flame mahogany. Height 74" The dial and case have had some restoration a few years ago, the dial has been refinished and the case has had a replacement skirting in mahogany and a new piece of moulding to the plinth. The work is of a high standard. J Ruxton is not listed, under UV light the name is shown to be original. The good quality 8-day movement strikes the hours on a bell.
C.1820, Irish Tall Clock, 8-day, as-found.
This clock is in distress, and should only be tackled by a determined finish carpenter. The case has laid in an attic for 20 years and the glue joints have failed. Moreover, the case was painted with a graining kit top to bottom, to disguise repairs. Finally, the artist even repainted the dial with floral corners and a robed prophet of sorts in the arch. The movement is complete and sound with original pend, weights, hands, bell, etc. Dial signed: Rob"t Russell. Height 84' Additional keywords: longcase, tallcase, grandfather
