Italy
Italian, dial or shield clock, painted iron roman numeral dial, front hung cow's tail pendulum (lacking bob), one day duration posted iron frame movement with crown wheel and verge escapement, countwheel bell strike, rope drive.
this clock came to us as-found from the early collection of Dr. Hugh Grant Rowell. There is a lot of surface rust on the movement, no drive rope, small disc for pendulum is absent. There is paint loss and rust on thin iron dial, about 70% remains visible. Hour hand is original, minute hand a crude replacement. However it is a 17th Century clock, over 350 years old, and should appeal to the European horologist.

Italian, reproduction of a French, Louis XV style "tall clock", an extra large bracket clock with equestrian feet and a sub-base, the whole upon a floor stand with flared, inlaid legs, the main case with matching fine marquetry, inlaid with small musical
this clock was produced in 1984; these finely detailed cases were all made in Sorrento, home of all kinds of inlaid cases for jewelry and musical boxes. These extra large units were a special order and were expensive. We would imagine this would go well in a fancy hotel reception area or in a large house with French theme. Pendulum bob has been replaced; otherwise movement is fine, ticks and strikes. The case is Very heavy; the metal bits of both cast brass and spelter, finished with a gold-tone spray.
Italian, Giovani Scherlino, Torino, (Patent holder) novelty sector clock, with snap back hand action at 12 o'clock, C.1930.
the original movement is heavy and well made with lever 'scape and brushed plates. The dial, which in many respects represents the entire clock, has some rust, some chips and fading/ wear. The artwork for the dial was done by a firm in Milan, looks like G. Ranci [on right margin]. The left margin of the dial bears the name of the inventor, repeated on the rear dust cover. The seconds hand is absent. Sector display watches and clocks have come and gone over the last 2 centuries, as taste has changed.

Note the pendulum is an incorrect replacement - should be a cast sunburst (these are available from Timesavers, although you will need to adapt the pendulum to the existing rod). Minor nicks; glass loose in bezel, but overall this is a good looking clock. Height 23"
C.1985, Italian, Reproduction of Louis XV style Boulle clock.
The case is made in Livorno, typical brass and shell inlay over plywood and composition case. The 8-day time and strike pendulum movement is from Germany. This clock has all the look of an expensive original without the investment; note cast brass dial with 12 individual porcelain numerals. The bracket is separate from the clock and attaches to the wall with 2 hangers and the clock itself sets on the bracket. These were expensive when new. Height of clock only 22 1/2"; overall ht, 30"
