Baird Figure Eight Advertising Coca Cola Clock, c. 1890
Maker: Edward P. Baird and Co, Plattsburgh, NY. 30 1/2" high, 5 1/2" deep, 18 1/2" diameter upper bezel, 12" diameter of lower bezel. Condition: excellent. Of the several models of Coca Cola clocks made by Baird this is the rarest one. It states for "Headaches and Relieves Exhaustion", the ingredients were such that Coca Cola was trying to change their image. The later models dropped this advertising from the lower bezel. The clock is easily authenticated by its dimensions. The dial, hands, pendulum, movement, upper and lower bezels are original. There are no repairs to the papier mache on the upper and lower bezels. This is one reason it is more desirable. The maroon paint on both bezels is lightly faded but intact. The lettering is in very good condition with only minor strengthing. The maroon coloring from the side and center portions between the bezel has faded greatly. There is a slight warp to the top bezel. 85 percent of the label is intact. The original paper dial has slight staining and aging. The eight day movement has recently been serviced and is in good running order. This one is NOT repainted, it is original finish. This one of the earliest form of Coca Cola advertising.
