in nice condition. This is an exceptional clock for several reasons. First off it chimes the quarters on a set of 8 cast bells, playing the Whittington church melody. Next is the size, a surprising 43.5" high, a most imposing piece, the well figured mahogany veneers and moldings in very good condition; and finally the mounts, or brass trim pieces are of fine quality, well chased and adding to the elegance of the piece. There are filled holes in the base molding, indicating some old wood-worm activity, and an extra set of holes in the rear plate where the original support bracket was moved for better stability. The gazebo at top displays a gowned lady, with surprising resemblance to a young Queen Victoria. The dial, signed P. des Granges, London, has been reblacked over an old surface, and with a strike/silent hand in the arch. Height 43.5" Reserve $7500
