the dial signed Tho. Mayer. This clock undoubtedly comes from the west coast of France, as the movement shows a great deal of English influence, i.e., large rectangular brass plates with rack and snail on the front plate, however the wheelwork and pillars are typically French, and the brass dial plate has both a French porcelain dial as well as cast brass trim in the French style, also sunburst hands. This clock is running and striking, however the dial has loss of porcelain that has been painted white and other nicks and stains that still need attention. The county French pine case has a beveled panel front with false grain paint in very good condition. Bottom 14" plinth is newly made. In a day when big name clocks sell for many thousands, this clock is sure to have appeal. Height 87" $1200-1600
