C.1845, French, Paul Garnier, an early 4-glass mantel regulator, as-found.
This is a high quality clock worthy of restoration. Most of the original gilding has been polished off the case by an over zealous maid. The bell standard was replaced in a new position, with empty holes where the old one was attached. The porcelain dial signed Paul Garnier, and the movement with simply the number 449. Note there is not a rear panel or door on this case, but a small rear porthole. Major movement adjustments and case assembly are possible because the very top is removable, held on only by gravity. The quality of the Greek revival mounts on the case is exceptional. The minute hand was broken, and re-soldered with a segment missing, so is about 1 cm short; original matching hour hand is complete. This is a very heavy clock, 22 pounds (10kg). Lots of potential for someone with the time to restore this one; height 13" (35cm) Reserve $2350
