This is a PENDULUM clock, the large square movement in the base, driving the minute ring with a vertical shaft up through the urn; motion work behind the dials driving the hour ring. Note the dial rings are also of well chased ormolu and with applied porcelain cartouche numerals, an ormolu serpent pointing to the time. Although there is no damage to the dials, the case got tweaked at some time, and the urn has a slight list to the left. We tried loosening the case screws to adjust this, but it will require a shim to bring it in line. The bell strike movement is clean and running. Rare with a pendulum. Height 19.6'
