These bell clocks were retailed by Cartier in the last quarter of the 19th century, and came in two versions, a smaller fraternal bell like we sold in May (lot 204), with the movement in the bell itself, and then this larger Liberty Bell, with the clock in the marble base. The nice part of this item is that the bell retains its original fire gilding in good condition. The bell is complete with "crack" and all engravings: BY ORDER OF THE PROVINCE OF PENNSYLVANIA, PROCALIM LIBERTY THROUGHOUT ALL THE LAND TO ALL THE INHABITANTS THEREOF, Philada-1753. The rim of the bell has some small dings from regular ringing of this bell, apparently with a small hammer (not major, just apparent). The movement would benefit from service; Height 19" $1500-2000
