in excellent condition, with restoration. The top of the globe got dropped and the underside shows evidence of straightening, and the entire globe was refinished in cobalt blue (excellent workmanship). This work is only evident on the closest examination, and the general appearance of the clock and the original bright yellow fire gilding is outstanding. The marble base is intact, and decorated on all 3 sides with fanciful sprays of ormolu. The 3 nude ladies, or graces, hold the ball aloft and acanthus swags are draped from each ladies hands to the next. The well made movement strikes on a bell and is wound by removing the top of the ball. See virtually identical clock pictured in Tardy's La Pendule Francaise , part II, page 291, fig 3. Also see Sotheby's Meraux sale (6-28-93), lot371, which sold 7 years ago for $13,225. This is a very large clock, well made and certain to please the most discriminating collector. Height 30 inches (76 cm) Reserve $15000
