C.1890, New Haven, "Chime Clock No. 1
in oak with brass trimmings. This clock is complete and original with all finials, feet and trim intact. The description in the New Haven catalog is inadequate; please see Tran Ly's New Haven book, page 400, where he pictures 4 views of this unique and sturdy movement. Note it plays Whittington 8-bell tune, not Westminster as indicated in the catalog. There is a pull repeat lever out the top of the clock that repeats the hours on a large gong in case you lost count. Uses a unique disc pendulum with center ball adjustment. The cast bells have excellent tone. The dial is silvered, etched brass with cast spandrels in the corners, with F/S scale below hand shaft. Case with minor wear, but with original finish in very good condition; beveled glass in door. Note there are 4 flame finials on top but rear 2 do not show in photo; also see side frets with original cloth intact. Bottom molding is coming loose. A great American clock. Height 18" Reserve $1900
