from the French Industrial and novelty series.The gong striking Marti movement has a pendulum in the form of a cooking pot which oscillates in the fireplace. There are two minor items lacking from this example which do not affect its operation: a turned lid for the pot (easily lost) and the set of andirons. These last items may be seen on an example of this clock in Derek Roberts' book: Mystery Novelty and Fantasy Clocks, (1999), page 263, and also in the Meraux Collection (Sotheby's), lot no. 6. This clock is otherwise in good original condition, dirty and needing cleaning throughout. Height 16", W12", D6" Reserve $2100
