This is a classic case-on-case format, the 2-tune Swiss music box in the lower one inch base section. A case similar to this is in the Rockford Museum Collection, catalog no. 2342, and is illustrated in A Century of Fine Carriage Clocks, by Fanelli and Terwilliger, page 126. That clock has a glass enclosed automaton on top, in lieu of the finely cast top this one bears. The well made movement is an hour striker on a bell. The music is actuated by the alarm mechanism and plays until wound down. This clock has been restored, and the gold plating is fresh. Screws with heads a bit too large are holding in the music box and this should be addressed; the minute hand is slightly bent. Heavily beveled glass is all perfect. A large clock; height 9º'
