The case is of well figured gray/brown mottled marble, in the shape of an urn, with bright ormolu trim on the base, sides and top. The porcelain dial rings are driven by a platform lever movement, the time indicated at a small rose on one side of the urn. A couple of minor hairlines are visible in the numerals when magnified (virtually unnoticeable). Usually these clocks are French, and it is unusual to find this model from Switzerland. See similar clocks in Sotheby's Meraux catalog (6-28-93), page 124, which sold in the $5000-7000 range. Gubelin items are of the highest quality; with Gubelin signature. Height 11" Reserve $4500
