English Early Victorian Oak Cased Tallcase Clock, circa 1860
By David Jones of Derby 1846 -1860. The oak Case inlaid with mahogany and rosewood in the Gothic fashion of the 1860's. Arched dial has super equestrian hunting scene in naive style, and leaping stags in the spandrels. This clock is all original including the good quality 8-Day movement which strikes the hours on a bell. There is a subsidiary seconds dial David Jones is a well known local maker, born in Duffield, Derbyshire in 1819. He was living and working in Devonshire Street, Derby in 1846, 40 Albert Place, Derby from 1852 to 1855 moving to 21 Wellington Street, Derby, where he is recorded working in 1860.
