Jerome and Co. Walnut Shelf Clock, "The Rhine"; circa 1879
Anonymous (not verified)
23 October 2024
Solid walnut case; brass movement; etched door glass, barrel pendulum (probably a later replacement). 21" tall x 11" wide at the base. Condition: excellent. Clean 8-day movement with a strike on the hours. The door glass has an attractive etched pattern. Everything about this clock is premium including the original label on the back of the case. The dial which is also original- is painted on metal (not a paper recovering). The dial has several flaked areas which have been retouched but looks good enough for us to leave it alone. There is a stamped Patent date of 1879 on the bezel of the dial. The Jerome Co. was formerly owned and operated by Chauncey Jerome of New Haven Connecticut.
