C.1890, E. Howard and Co.,wall regulator clock
Anonymous (not verified)
23 October 2024
A special order oak cased wall regulator for Western Union, now without the "hand stop" device at 12. Howard perfected a small solenoid device with two arms that swung in to the center, "capturing" the minute hand, yet allowing the weight driven movement to continue running. All hands in the system were then released at the same time, thus providing uniformity of time in all offices. Any time you see this little smiling face in the dial at 12, you can be sure it was made for a system requiring synchronization. Being misunderstood by later owners, most of these devices are now missing. The original tablet is crisp; the golden oak case is immaculate and impressive and sure to attract bidding excitement. Original dial is 16", Height 43"
