Both wheels of the early Penny-Farthing bicycle are driven by a spring powered movement within the red marble base; the bronze cyclist in Victorian garb, knee pants, spats and a leather jacket. The bezels which retain the 3 dials are screwed to the marble via small tabs, and this was made so, each tab with a threaded female counterpart inset in the marble base. The aneroid barometer is a replacement; and the porcelain time dial with a visible repair above the 12. The cyclist, the marble case, the striking movement and the automata all are old and original, and the few replacement items are certainly minor when considering the scarcity of this rare clock. Also see this model pictured in Derek Roberts' book: Mystery Novelty Fantasy Clocks, (1999), page 268, figure 22-34, as well as other details in Chapter 22 on the industrial clocks as a whole.
