C.1915, Studio timepiece, E.F. Caldwell and Co. shelf clock
New York with Chelsea movement, a studio timepiece in the finest French fashion. The serial number of the movement is 102376. The case itself is of the finest variegated marble, black with veins of gray and dark green. The top is held aloft by two gilded bronze figures, men with the legs and horns of a goat, and the case is well trimmed in finely chased ormolu mounts. The rear cover is cast with a wreath of ivy vines, and is signed E.F. Caldwell and Co., New York. Outside the numerals is a cast and gilded ring with the 12 signs of the Zodiac. Retains original Chelsea timepiece movement of the highest quality, and the pierced and engraved hands are of superior quality. A similar Caldwell clock sold recently in a New York auction for $17,000. Height 17", 44.5cm See also lot 264.
