This is a copy of an 18th century version, made popular by Charles Boulle. The walnut case has been refinished, and is in good condition with book matched pattern joined in the center, fashionably adorned with ormolu mounts in the Louis XVI style. There is a repair to the veneer on the front where a dry split occurred; it has been filled in with a vertical strip. The well made dial is a brass casting with 25 individual porcelain panels in good condition, and with original hands. The well made French lever movement strikes on a gong. An 18th century piece would be several thousand dollars. Height 21 inches
