C.1885, French, Marti, for J.E. Caldwell, Philadelphia gilt bronze lyre clock

23 October 2024
(signed on movement), a gilt bronze lyre clock, as-found. The bronze case is very unusual, with the extended wings of two caryatids forming the side wings of the lyre. Much of the gilding is worn off the case, so your choices boil down to re-plating, or simply buffing it all to brass. The well made bell strike movement, no. 2463, and with matching number pendulum (don't lose this pendulum, it only fits this clock). The cast bronze dial with individual porcelain cartouche numerals is perfect. An impressive piece that will respond well to restoration; height 23"
