23 October 2024
Serial no. 64722, a timepiece in a carved mahogany case of exceptional detail. Originally this had gesso over the wood and was brightly gilded; you can still see tiny bits of gesso in the crevices (only on close examination). However it has been carefully stripped and finished with clear lacquer, showing off the wood beautifully. The clock itself sets in a central drum surrounded by ribbons, and two facing eagles with wings spread are holding the long and curly ribbon in their beaks, appearing to support the clock. Porcelain dial 3"; width 18", height 9"
