The Maranville calendar was patented 1861 and Gilbert Manf'g Co. was organized in 1866, and remained in business until 1871. A complete label in the case reads, "Maranville Calendars Manufactured for N.C. Hyde & Co., by Gilbert Manf'g Co". This label is an overpaste of another unknown label but I would guess it was just a Gilbert Manf'g label, omitting the N.C. Hyde & Co. name. The movement is 8 day, striking on a coil gong. 24-inch rosewood veneer case is as good as you will find. Clean, shining, restored, and running strong. The carved wings and original glasses are perfect. This clock is near mint. Ly-Gilbert, pages 73, 74, 76; and Ly-Calendar, pages 81, 82, 84.
