Winterhalter & Hoffmeyer Victorian Oak, Chiming Bracket Clock, ca 1890.
Massive three train fusee and chain movement chiming on 8 bells or plays Westminster chimes on 8 bells, hours strike a large gong. Movement is not signed W&H but several things indicate it was made by W&H, like the positioning of the 3 subsidiary dials in the arch, the dial and movement design. It probably is signed on the front plate but I won't take the clock apart to satisfy that whim as those who know these things say it is a W & H clock. 7 inch silver engraved dial ring, matted centre, scroll spandrels, subsidiary dials for "chime-silent", "regulation", and "chime on 8 bells/Westminster", all in the arch, the whole set within a gilt filigree mask. Rectangular shaped case with bell top, surmounted by flambeau finials, panels of gilt brass cast sound frets to the sides, cast with foliate scrolls. Gilt cast mounts in the corners, top and base. Rectangular base on 4 molded feet. Bronze Corinthian turned pillars on the front, on curved pedestals, leaf cast molding around the case. 28 inch oak case, brass escutcheons, working door locks and key.
