with a plaque on the base that reads, "Presented to Oswald Augustus Smith, Esq rr - on 50th anniversary working at the Banking House, 1 Lombard St., London. 29th August 1898". Clock is 3 train in excellent original condition. English style case with arched dial, full columns on each side, cast brass spandrels around the dial, engraved and silvered chapter ring with a plaque, "Searle & Co., 78 Lombard, London". Three subsidiary dials, chime-silent, Slow-Fast and Whittington-Westminster Chimes. Strikes quarter hours with your choice of 8 bells or 5 gongs. The deep sound exits the case on both sides and the back door. Sides have pierced wooden side frets, cloth covered, and the back door is pierced flat brass with cloth covering. There are exceptional carvings on the front, heavy carving on top, some on the door. There are full columns with capitals and bases. Beautiful walnut case with the original patina, standing 25 inches high. The clock has been well maintained, all case hardware and keys are original.
