English Country Tall Clock, probably made in north England in a rural area around 1720-1750. English pine cases were usually stained or ebonized. Bases tend to be square and the wood grain runs vertical as this case does. Very simple one weight chain movement, runs both time and strike trains. It is running and it strikes an iron bell on top of the movement. This case is 74 inches high, 6 feet 2 inches, which is typical of country cases, after all the ceilings in the 1700's were probably not 7 feet tall. Looks good, would make a great kitchen, den, or basement wreck room clock.
