C.1825, Chauncey Ives, Bristol, Conn., pillar and scroll shelf clock, as-found.
This clock has led a hard life. The worst part is this clock now has an 8-day spring movement. The original top has one ear broken and repaired. One side return is a replacement and piece of veneer is missing on the other return. There has been a repair to a small piece of the round molding on the top of the case. The original dial has some paint loss in the center area and someone has painted a rather nice scene, although not appropriate. The feet look to be original but have been shortened a little. The upper glass is original, while the lower is a replacement. The finials and eagle are incorrect. The dial was plugged and redrilled to the fit the spring movement. The hands are original, but have been modified to fit the brass movement. The pulleys have been removed. Despite all that, the case is in pretty good condition and with a little TLC, a proper movement could be found, the dial restored and a proper tablet done. The label is very clean and the original bell block is still on the backboard. Height 28Ó $300-$500
