C.1880, English for the Dutch market, 8-day time and strike, walnut marquetry inlaid bracket clock (made in the style of a much earlier clock).

23 October 2024
This well made clock has a substantial double chain fusee movement with anchor escapement and hour striking on a large bell over the movement. The heavy brass dial with cast spandrels and faux pendulum aperture, bears a chapter ring with the signature of a prominent Dutch maker, Henerik Gusberts, Amsterdam. The attractive case has floral marquetry on the front and sides; it has developed some age cracks in the top molding and there is some loss of line inlay in that same molding. The clock comes with a solid walnut bracket of recent vintage, that is just large enough to hold the clock (we'd recommend some position blocks if you choose to use it). Runs and strikes robustly. Height of clock only 21.50Ó, with bracket 29Ó $1,500-$2,000
