For those of you who have the 1975 edition of La Pendule Francaise, you will find several examples similar to this on pages 288-291. The lever movement is in the base and power is transmitted up through the urn to the annular dials. This example has panels of green onyx in both the oval and rectangular "windows" in the base. Winding is accomplished from the rear of the clock, via two beveled gears that mesh with the vertical winding arbors. Strikes the hours and halved on a bell. The well jeweled lever platform is intact and the clock is in running order. The case retains its original fire gilding, and the time is indicated by the tongue of a bronze serpent who has coiled 'round the urn. Height 17Ó $7,500-$8,500
