C.1920, Junghans, "Monkey Business", 30-hour German novelty clock.
Anonymous (not verified)
23 October 2024
A line runs up from the movement to actuate the lower jaw and eyes of the monkey who is sitting on a pedestal. The eyes move up and down slowly and the jaw opens and closes, apparently in amazement at the wondrous things the monkey is reading in the book. The dial with traditional J in a star trademark, and has some wear from going without a crystal for a while (now replaced). Monkey is bronzed spelter with a painted tin back. Note we sold this same model, but in slightly crisper condition, in May of 2000, lot 342 for $1525+ Height 9.75Ó $950-$1,250
