Early shelf clock with carved half columns and splat, pineapple finials, claw feet. The old label reads, "Manufactured for George Mitchell, by Atkins & Downs, Bristol, Conn". It was made around 1831-1832.

The wood movement is 30 hour. I cranked it up and it will run a while and quits. There are no broken teeth but the cords are old and frayed and the movement is dirty. Note the repair below the count wheel. It works fine, but could be made to look a lot better. Good full label, period weights, pendulum, hands, and dial. The dial was shellacked and is now beginning to yellow. It is in good condition otherwise, has no breaks or scratch marks. Note the great old eagle hands.Bottom glass is a replacement, now with an old picture, no paint. The top glass is possibly original. All the carvings are very good except for a tiny tic on the eagles wing, right side. It was glued back very professionally. 30 inch mahogany veneer case is good all around except for the door. There are repairs on all the glass frames. Escutcheon and lock are intact. Reference-"Eli Terry & the Connecticut Shelf Clock", Second Edition Revised, by Kenneth D. Roberts & Snowden Taylor. An almost identical case and label are pictured on pages 227-229.
