Junghans shelf cuckoo, ca 1890 or a little later,
Junghans shelf cuckoo, ca 1890 or a little later, according to the trademark on the movement which is an 8 pointed star, inside the star is a large J, and then ONGANS in a semi circle above the J. According to trademark books that would date this cuckoo around 1890. According to an old dealers label on the back this clock may have been sold in 1906 or 1910, in England.Movement has enclosed spring barrels, the time side barrel is about twice the size of the strike side barrel. Solid plate movement, outside count wheel. Original wood bird, very old bellows, correct pendulum. Hands and numerals are very nice so I would assume they are not original, but it is possible. This clock came from a long time cuckoo collector in good running condition.Carved balcony around 3 sides of the base. Any breaks or repairs are minimal. One tip of a bird wing, leaf stem, etc. Almost perfect considering the age and difficulty in moving, carrying, and shipping such a clock. It is amazing when you find one of these in this condition.
