Wm. L. Gilbert Clock Co. shelf clock, "Stella", ca 1879.

This is an early 8 day clock, gong strike, and running. Ebonized case and dial, steel bronze trim. Metal leaves on 4 corners of the door, metal on front corners of the base. I would guess the designs around the door and base were pressed into the wood. Picture of the clock in Ly-Gilbert No.1072, would leave you to think the designs were originally a brass color to match the metal ornaments. We report, you decide. The glass is not original, the regulating pendulum is the same as shown in the picture. Red velvet inside the case, looks very good, a late addition however. Wood case is 15 1/2 inches high. Dial has remnants of a gold design in the middle, catalog doesn't show that.
