Elias Burwell Calendar Clock, ca 1862.
Burwell secured the rights to manufacture the B.B. Lewis calendar mechanism, and supplied movements to L.F. & W.W. Carter, Welch Spring & Co., and E. Ingraham & Co. The perpetual calendar mechanism with separate day, date, and month indicators, are all on the time dial. The month and day dial are below the hand arbors. The painted zinc dial has a small amount of paint loss, primarily around the hand and day dial arbors. I positively would not repaint the dial. Then it would not be completely original. 24 1/2 inch rosewood case has been lightly cleaned and polished. It is barely evident that some minor repairs have been made to the bezel. The tablet was painted by Lee Davis, using an original glass to copy. I sincerely doubt anyone would have know that it wasn't original if I had not given you that information. There is no label, but then, there is no evidence there ever was one The movement is 8 day, time only. The clock has been serviced and is running and operating properly. The pendulum is old. This rare calendar clock is almost never seen for sale. I would imagine it will go into a nice calendar clock collection. Ly-Calendar, page 38-39.
