8 day, lever movement, striking ships bells, half hours and hours, running and striking properly. Silver dial is 8 1/2 inches with raised bronze numerals. The chapter ring has some paint loss between the 7 and 10, where fingers rubbed. Case is cast brass or bronze, 12 inches high, 10 3/4 inches wide. "Hardy & Hayes Co. Pittsburgh", shown as the selling agent, on the dial. The dial also says, "Ships Bell". There is a small label on the back but I can't read it. May not be a Chelsea label. Bezel opens with a side latch. Serial number on the base is, "23834", and "15488". Ly-American, Volume 2, page 74.
