English carved wall clock by, "Jas. Sagar, Blackborn", c. early 1800's.

English clockmaker in the early 1800's. Movement is double fusee, cable, running 8 days, striking a bell on the hours. Single barrel pendulum hangs in front of a full backboard mirror. Mirror retains a major portion of the silver, not bad enough to be concerned with. The movement is a strong runner, albeit dirty. 13 inch painted iron dial with the original paint, less than 5% paint loss. The dial is signed by the maker. Good original old hands. All the front glass has been replaced over time.Walnut? case is 34 inches high, 19 inches wide, expertly carved on all front surfaces. The case was probably refinished in years past, now it has a nice dark aged look. The carving on the front left has been broken and repaired. When carrying the clock your instinct is to grab the clock by the carvings. That is a no-no, and the reason why the carving was broken. The case has latched doors on the upper sides of the case and on the base. There is no door in front to access the pendulum, you go in from underneath. The bezel latches from behind. This is a very heavy, solid clock, that has survived 150-200 years of honest service and came away in very good condition. It should easily go another 150-200 years.
