According to the old books, Nortonwas a watch and clockmaker in the late 1700's. The old wood case is 8 inches high, made like the English short drop clocks. Case is original, 200 plus years old. It has lost maybe 25% of the black paint. On the front where the name is painted in gold, the paint is better than the top and better than you could hope for. The small glass is bowed and beveled. The large glass is also bowed as is the porcelain dial. The back of the 4 inch dial has some firing marks and initials. Dial is not perfect but not bad considering its age. There are small chips around the arbors and screw holes. I would bet the brass hands, brass bezel, and brass inner movement cover, are all original. The wood back door is hinged and latches. There is a strange hanger on the back. One side says, "H. Muhrs Sons, Worlds Columbian". The front says, "Watch Cases". The hanger although small is heavily etched with many designs. 30 hour, time only, silk thread suspension.
