The movement, although not signed, looks like a Winterhalter & Hoffmeyer movement. 8 day, triple chain fusee movement, strikes Westminster Chimes on 5 gongs or plays another melody on 8 bells. You can change selections on one of the subsidiary dials on the front.Beautiful mahogany case is 25 inches high, 18 1/2 inches wide. Brass eagle, 4 brass pineapple finials, and a brass frieze across the top and on both sides. There are 2 large brass handles, brass side and rear door curtains, brass ornament above the door, full brass columns with bases and capitals, and brass escutcheon. Front and back door locks with key. Silver dial ring on a brass background that includes the inner dial. Cast brass spandrels all around the dial and 3 subsidiary dials. The 3 subsidiary dials are just like the big dial only on a small scale. They are, "Chime-Silent", "Slow-Fast", and "Chime on Eight Bells-Westminster Chimes". A very unusual feature is a lever below the dial that you move to close access to the 3 winding arbors. Door glass is beveled. This is a very large and attractive clock, serviced and performing perfectly, and bidding beginning far below the market value.
