French 4 column Empire style mantle clock, ca 1880's. Ebonized wood veneer case is 18 inches high with cast gilt mountings on the top and base. 4 full turned columns, bronze capitals and bases. Some places have suffered from careless handling, base and top, on the right side, and top front and base front have some chips. All have been covered with black paint so are hardly noticeable but nonetheless they are there. 4 turned feet.French movement is 8 day, bell strike, and outside count wheel. It is clean and running. Cast and gilt floral lyre pendulum. Good bronze dial and cast dial surround depicting mythical birds, snakes, worms, cupid, grapes and vines. Hands, ornaments, and other parts are all original to this case.
