French 19th Century red tortoise shell and boulle shelf clock. Vincenti movement is at least 14 day, gong strike, with a modern sunburst pendulum The arched case with numerous bronze castings of many figures and shapes. The 4 corners have cast classical figures on each side of a full side glass, full cast decorative feet. Chased gilt dial with black Roman chapters on whiteenamel cartouches. Outside of the white cartouches there are numbers 1 thru60 etched in the bronze dial ring. Probably the most striking thing aboutthe case are the figures attached to the lower front door, 2 ladies surroundedby books, globe, and who knows what all. The case has been lightly cleanedwithout getting into the grooves of the inlaid brass and tortoiseshell. Naturallythere is some loss of inlay but it is only noticeable upon close examination.I donÕt think we have ever had one that was perfect. Thank goodness thereare several collectors who get great enjoyment out of restoring this typeclock.
