Steeple roof has a scalloped trim underneath, applied carvings around the bezel, a tapered base with locking and removabledoor, to access the pendulum, store the winding key, etc. Large, full lockingside doors that allows access to everything. There are pencil thin openingsin the doors, once cloth covered, to allow the great bell sounds to escape. Keys included for all the locks. The old case is dark, original, hasnot been refinished, patched, repaired. It is the kind of clock youwonÕt be carrying from room to room; you leave in one place, consequentlyno bangs or scratches. Very pretty burl designs in the wood. Normally thistype clock is found only in oak, rare to find a big one in mahogany. The8 day movement has thick solid plates, 8" high, and 7.5" wide, plus the rackof 8 bells and hammers attached to the top. It is all one person can do tolift it out of the case. The bells play 8 notes the first quarter, 16 thesecond, ect. and strikes the hours on a huge coil iron gong. Painted irondial is 14", quarter hour numerals painted red, the other eight painted black. The bezel and glass are also very large and heavy. Arranged so that you canÕtopen the bezel without unlocking the side door to access the latch holdingthe bezel. No signature on the movement or case that I can see. This clockhas been in storage in New York City for many years. It has been serviced and is operating very well.
