30 hour woodmovement, 2 weight groaner type, more than likely was a standard productionmodel of BoardmanÕs. The strike lever extends thru the top of the case tostrike an iron bell on top. There is a very nice 12 inch wood dial. Reportedlythe case and movement style derived from the Joseph Ives, large scroll top, looking glass cases. This case with the smoked interior, and full door, waseither made by Chauncey Jerome, or Jerome, Darrow and Co, Bristol, Conn, ca around 1824-1828. The one piece door is the full width of the case, hingedon the left and goes all the way to the bottom. The movement originally wassecured to the back of the case by cleats, the bottom cleat is missing. Thesmall glass in the bottom is probably original, the other two are no doubtreplacements. The iron bell is missing from the top. These early clocks typicallydid not have labels, it is apparent this one never had one. Mahogany veneercase is 37 inches high. Scroll top, reeded columns, carved acanthus at thetop. A few years later this style case and the pillar and scroll cases werereplaced by the stenciled column and splat cases. This case never had feet.References: "The Contributions of Joseph Ives to Connecticut Clock Technology, 1810-1862", by Kenneth D. Roberts, Revised Second Edition, Chapter 3, pages34-55.
